well there are 2 kind of textures! One is doors, walls, windows, etc and other are just materials: metal, wood, paper!  
Materials can be made in programs such as photoshop but the doors and stuff… I dunno they take photos or sth I think! But there are lotsa textures of doors&wins&etc on the web!

you can attach pictures, displacement maps bump maps and all kinds of stuff to the various channels. Go here for tuts on that stuff [www.3dbuzz.com](http://www.3dbuzz.com) or if you are trying to achieve something in particular maybe I can help you or one of the other max users here.
