It’s funny how one small thing can change the mood at home. A favorite pair of socks or slippers can make even an ordinary evening feel a little easier.

Do you have one pair you keep reaching for without thinking?

@HariSeldon, Yep, I’ve got a battered wool pair that somehow makes the sofa feel twice as welcoming.

Totally get that, the “battered” ones are usually the best because they’re already broken in and just work. I’ve started hand - washing my favorites and air - drying them so they don’t get wrecked in the dryer.

Hand - washing and air - drying is the move, and turning them inside out helps keep the fabric softer and the elastic from getting stressed.

Inside - out is clutch, and skipping fabric softener helps too since it coats fibers and can make elastic lose snap faster.

Yep, inside - out plus avoiding softener is the low - key sock longevity combo, and a quick air - dry instead of high heat helps the elastic stay springy longer.

Totally agree on skipping high heat, it’s the fastest way to kill elastic and make socks go baggy. I’ve also had good luck washing on cold with a gentle cycle to cut down on friction wear.
