To stop children from bypassing its age checks, Meta is revamping its age-verification tools with an AI system that analyzes images and videos for “visual cues,” such as height and bone structure.

This feels like the “take your shoes off at the airport” version of the internet — it’ll catch the laziest attempts and annoy everyone else. And the “visual cues” thing is gonna be messy fast; my 11-year-old is taller than some adults and my buddy’s baby face still gets him carded.

Yeah the “visual cues” angle is gonna get real weird for anyone who’s trans, disabled, or just doesn’t fit whatever their model thinks an “adult” looks like, and then you’re stuck appealing to a robot because you have a round face. feels like we’re speedrunning to “upload your ID” as the default anyway.
