# "Access of undefined property" error from custom class

I am trying to create a custom class of my [AS3 XML News Ticker](http://lab.simplicit.co.za/?p=113). I am getting the error “1120: Access of undefined property” for references to objects which are already on the stage i.e. not dynamically created. I am pretty sure that it is an encapsulation issue.

Please view the attached files. I will appreciate assistance with this problem as I will be providing the class on [my blog](http://lab.simplicit.co.za) once it is working.
