# Adding a non-clickable background to a set of buttons

Hi all,

I’ve created an as navigation panel similar to the one on google maps to navigate around a bubble chart created in Flex. The problem I’m having is that when there is a bubble(s) behind a button been clicked I end up selecting that bubble(s) as well!

What I’m looking for is some way to put a see-through background behind the nav panel so that bubbles in or around the buttons can’t be selected? I’ve tried putting all the buttons on a canvas and placing also them all on a larger button but so far no luck! I still manage to select bubbles when clicking on a button!

Does anyone have any ideas how I might stop this from happening?

I’m not quite sure I read your question properly, but if something is blocking your mouse events just put mouseEnabled = false on it ? oO

No my mouse events aren’t been blocked - what’s happening is when I click a button (say the left arrow to pan left), if there is a bubble under the button the bubble gets selected as well. I want my bubbles to be selectable in the chart as I have click and double click events defined for my bubbles but I want to lock the area around my navigation buttons so that if I’m clicking a button I don’t also select what’s behind the button.

At the moment I have event listeners on the button which set the selectability of the bubbles to false when the button is pushed and back to true when the mouse click event has fired. I was wondering if there was any easier way to do this as I don’t want to turn off the bubble selection functinality?!
