# AI might be making us faster and flatter

I’m not sure the scary part is that AI writes code fast. It’s that after a while you start trusting your first pass too much, and your own review gets lazy.

Has AI actually made you a better builder, or just a faster shipper? The stuff people still refuse to hand off is probably where the craft is hiding.

“Both” is true, but it’s not evenly both. AI makes me faster on the parts that feel like drafting: boilerplate, naming options, quick refactors.

AI’s great at the “drafting” layer, but it has this sneaky way of sanding off the weird-but-important edges. Everything comes out competent and kind of samey unless I’m really strict about constraints and taste. So I treat it like autocomplete with opinions, not a collaborator.
