# \<br\> doesn't work for me in CSS text

I’ve imported CSS style info that I am trying to apply to a multiline dynamic text field. Using “\<br\>” in the lines doesn’t get me a newline. I’ve also tried ‘newline’, ‘/n’, & ‘/r’; Newline works nicely without CSS… doesn’t work with CSS. Any ideas?
