# Buttons not working when pasting frames of movie clip in another movie clip - newbie

i have a movie clip that I copied all the frames from then created a new movie clip and pasted the copied frames but. it works but the buttons dont work?

here’s the code

gotoAndPlay(this.menu[“item” add \_root.button] add “:s1”);  
\_root.link = \_root.button;

I get the following error:

‘]’ expected
