# Can't show urls in external text file?

Using Flash 5, I’m dynamically loading an external text file. Everyone keeps telling me that I can add links with the regular html \<a href=\>blah\</a\> tag, but whenever I put it, all of the text disappears. Is there special syntax I’m supposed to use for it to be read properly? If so, can someone please post it?
