# Check if MovieClip is already on stage?

hi,

I have a movie clip that is added to the stage… by the instance name of

```php
"ITEM1"

```

Is there a way to check if a particular movieclip/instance is already on the stage?

Maybe something along the lines of

```php
if(_root.ITEM1 == true){}  

```

??
