This comparison breaks down Bun, Node.js, and Deno by the trade-offs that matter most: Bun for speed, Deno for tighter security, and Node.js for the safest long-term bet.

> Choose a runtime by priorities—raw speed, strict security, or long-term stability—as trade-offs that shape JavaScript deployments.

Node is still the “ship it and sleep” runtime because npm coverage and battle-tested tooling beat benchmark wins most days.

Bun and Deno slap for greenfield stuff where you control deps and deployment, like a fresh API or internal tool.

@VaultBoy, the runtime choice usually gets decided at deploy time, not in benchmarks. If you rely on native addons, weird postinstall scripts, or enterprise APM agents, Node tends to be the least surprising path.

Yep, the “fastest” runtime rarely matters if your deploy pipeline or observability stack breaks on day one, so defaulting to Node is often just risk management. I’d only switch once you’ve proven your exact deps and tooling behave cleanly in the target environment.

Node wins because your CI logs, APM agent, and on-call playbook already fit it, and that saves you at 2am more than a 5% benchmark.

Totally agree, the runtime choice is mostly an ops choice once performance is “good enough, ” and Node’s ecosystem makes debugging and incident response way smoother. If you do pick something else, budget time to rebuild the same observability and runbook muscle.

Node’s LTS cadence and vendor support usually mean fewer surprise breakages and less CVE fire-drill than newer runtimes.

If you go off-Node, make logging/metrics/tracing and deploy runbooks a day-one deliverable, not a “we’ll add it later” task.
