# Controlling Movie Clips on Different Levels

This is the layout of my current project. On the stage, there is a movie clip with an instance name of mc\_navigation. Inside mc\_navigation exist the movie clips mc\_resume, mc\_digital, mc\_entertainment and mc\_biography, and inside these movie clips exist mc\_resumetext, mc\_digitaltext, mc\_entertainmenttext and mc\_biographytext, respectively.

Stage  
–mc\_navigation  
-----mc\_resume  
----------mc\_resumetext  
-----mc\_digital  
----------mc\_digitaltext  
-----mc\_entertainment  
----------mc\_entertainmenttext  
-----mc\_biography  
----------mc\_biographytext

Because clicking on any of the mc\_whatevertext movie clips causes a change in all the other similar clips, I need to access variables in these movies. This seems like a simple task, but for some reason I absolutely cannot get it to work. I could probably reorganize the project in such a way that I only have to go up one level and could just use \_parent, but this would take a lot more effort. If at all possible, I want to preserve the current arrangement and call these movie clips on the mc\_whatevertext levels.

Inside mc\_resumetext, I have the following actionscript…  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_digital.mc\_digitaltext.holdblack = false;  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_digital.mc\_digitaltext.prevFrame();  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_entertainment.mc\_entertainmenttext.holdblack = false;  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_entertainment.mc\_entertainmenttext.prevFrame();  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_biography.mc\_biographytext.holdblack = false;  
\_root.mc\_navigation.mc\_biography.mc\_biographytext.prevFrame();

What am I doing wrong?
