# Convenience can quietly eat the manual skill

I keep noticing that automation is great right up until the day it isn’t, and then you realise you don’t actually remember how to do the thing by hand. I’ve had that happen with a couple of workflows at work — nothing dramatic, just enough to be annoying and slightly embarrassing.

Do people here try to keep the manual version alive on purpose, or do you just accept the tradeoff and hope the automation never goes sideways?

That “slightly embarrassing” moment is so real — I had it with a video workflow where my export preset got nuked, and I realized I couldn’t remember the manual sequence anymore.
