# Converting animation to symbol?

I made an animation on the main stage and I need to convert it to a movieclip but Im having an issue.  
The animation consists of 3 layers one of which is a classic motion guide.  
Another layer is a ball that follows the guide.

I followed these adobe website instructions-

But when I play the movieclip my ball no longer follows the guide. Is it possible to convert an animation with a guide layer to a symbol? Thanks
