# Displaying special character such as "\<"?

Hi i’m trying to display this character “\<” from an external txt file. Some how it doesnt work. I know that for some characters you have to change the code, examples if you want to display “+” you have to change it to %2b. I read in [adobe.com](http://adobe.com) that for “\<” you have to change it %3c, and yet it doesnt work.  
Anybody know how to do this ???
