Jack and Jill went up the hill… Both with a buck and a quarter…
Jill came down with 2.50! OOOOOO… Whatta whore!
Old mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her dog a bone…
When she bet over. Rover took over… And he got a BONE of his OWN!
OOOOOOOO!
Little Miss Muffit sat on her Tuffit… Eatting her curds and whey…
Along came a spider and sat down beside her and said…
“\*\*\*\*\*! You’re in my SPOT!”
Jack be nimble Jack be quick… jack jumped over the candlestick…
Jack looked down and boy did her frown cause he just burned off his prick…
OOOOO… I got a million of em!

Poems, I guess your not targeting a particular type? I’ll post a few. Here’s one I had to memorize by Edger Allan Poe (one or two words may be wrong, but I’m fairly certain not):
El Dorado
Gaily Bedight
A Galiant Knight
in Sunshine and in Shadow
Had Journeyed Long
Singing a Song
In Search of El Dorado
But He grew old
This Knight so Bold
And O’er his heart a Shadow
Fell as he Found
No spot of Ground
That looked like El Dorado
And as his strength
Failed him at Length
He met a Pilgrim’s Shadow
“Shadow,” said he
“Where can it be?
This land of El Dorado?”
“Over the Mountains
Of the Moon
Down the Vally of the Shadow
Ride, boldly Ride!” the shade replied,
“If you seek for El Dorado!”

Here’s a pretty… interesting poem, to say the least, by William Carlos Williams.
This is Just to Say

Check out Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, that is a masterpiece. Other signifigant poets to consider are Ralph Waldo Emerson, T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, John Donne, William Butler Yeats, and even old dirty Shakespeare. Those are some signifigant poets whose material is well worth reading.
As far as my writing goes, I’m much better with prose and play writing than poetry. Much better poetry to be seen, for sure. I may post some later, if I can find the folder containing the ones that are somewhat respectable. The ones I have saved to the PC are only attempts and what-not at crazy stuff like villanelles and sestinas.
A few things to know about poems, though. If there’s no metric foot or established rhyme scheme, it’s free verse. Check for beats, like a dactyl, iamb, trochee, etc. Every word is signifigant in a poem, unlike prose. Tone and diction are important. Look for literary devices and see how the device holds signifigance to the piece. Not all poems have deep, philisophic meanings, like in some of Tennison’s shorter works that only seek to capture moments. Can’t go without mentioned the haiku, though ;). 5/7/5 syllabic pattern that focuses on nature, designed to capture an instant that invokes as many of the readers senses as possible. That’s poetry in a nutshell. Much more can be said on the matter, I suppose.

Oh SPAM! Oh SPAM! Gourmet delight!
My food by day, my dreams by night.
To carve, to slice, to dice you up -
pureed in a blender and sipped from a cup.
What shining deity from Olympus knelt
down to the earth and hog butt smelt?
Creating then man’s eternal desire
for swine entrails congealed by fire.
On some corporate farm, a pig has died.
Eyes, tongue, and snout end up inside
that cube of SPAM hidden in the can
I now hold in my trembling hand.
More than mere food, SPAM is for me
a hedonistic expression of gluttonous glee.
Mottled with pork fat, the pink cube engrosses.
My mouth takes it in, my intestine disposes.
Long have my arteries clogged to the sound
of sizzling SPAM when there’s no one around -
furtively chewing or swallowing whole.
Triple bypass by forty, my medical goal.
Other processed meat products I’ve tried or declined
Vienna Sausages, Treet, even pig’s feet in brine.
Though each may be tasty in different ways,
none matches SPAM for gelatinous glaze.
That glistening pinkness beckons me
with gristle, fat, and BHT.
Oh Spam, my Spam - the taste, the smell -
The sacred meat product from Hormel.
