# Fast onboarding can hide weak understanding

I keep thinking fast onboarding gets praised for the wrong reason. A person can look productive in week one and still not really understand the system, the material, or the workflow underneath.
In studio, the fastest students were not always the ones who could explain their choices later. Has anyone else seen that gap between being able to start quickly and actually mastering the thing?

Fast onboarding optimises for “can you ship _something_” rather than “do you have a mental model? ”, so it rewards people who are good at pattern-matching the local conventions.
