# Fills and strokes

If I place any shape onto the stage all I see is a green outline with no fill.
E.g.
I place a rectangle onto the stage and use the colour mixer in linear mode, I cannot see the changes I have made. If I run the test movie the rectangle is correct with the linear attributes.
This is the same even if it is just filled with a single colour or I change the stroke. It is fine in preview (test movie) but all I see on the stage is an unfilled rectangle with a green line.
It is driving me nuts and I would be grateful for any help.

My guess is the problem should be fixed if you go view\>\>Preview Mode and change it from outlines to full.
let us know how it turns out.

dam it doesnt work with mx2004 it worked with my older version (at work). I still dont get fill or lines. The same old green line only even with preview set to full (or fast or anything else).
I will uninstall it and reinstall it - cant think of anything else

got it.
the layer property is set to ‘view layer as outlines’
now changed and working.

it does seem therefore that the layer properties override the document properties.
