# First Illustrator Picture

Don’t think this should be in Showcase & Critique 'cos it’s not a big thing. More just me learning to use Illustrator.
Anyway check it out. I traced a picture from SXC.hu in Illustrator and then coloured, blurred and added type to it in in Photoshop. In total it took me about half an hour. Tell me what you think.

I kinda like the blur. I’ll try and get one without it up though, see what you think.

I think what would make this stronger is make the girl more stylized and put some shadowing in it. And if you want to put a blur on her… change the blending mode so it’s not so harsh.

pretty good for your first time in illustrator. just add some shadows, a little more detail. For the blur in, photoshop duplicate the layer the girl is on. gaussian blur the duplicate (probly by 4 or 5, see what you like most) then lower the opacity to about 60-70. that way the blur is there, but it doesnt hurt the eyes. Also, i would use the sharpen tool on her face, some of her hair, and part of her chest. This way it looks like she’s moving around in some way, and only parts of her body are not moving.
an example of this sharpen and blur effect in unison can be seen on my signature picture on another forums.

As you can see the predator’s face is sharpened quite heavily, while the rest of the image is somewhat blurry, which give quite a nice effect.

it needs some shading and gradients, then the one without the blur will be awesome :thumb:

Okay I put in some subtle shading. Gradient/shadows on the hair and shadows on the top and face. Tell me what you think.

Thanks for the advice/comments/compliments guys. I think I’ll leave that one as it is. I might do another one today or tommorow. Watch out for the thread titled ‘Second Illustrator Picture’.

yea its definatly coming along, just keep ading to it and see what you come up with. few people get EXACTLY what they want right off the bat.
