I have a flv player that calls a web service. the web service returns info about the flv like location name, blah blah blah

the problem is, this only seems to work in IE and not in FireFox. I can’t for the live of me think of why the browser would cause a problem.

Please try the link out for yourself to see if you come across the issue.

I’ve tried the following
IE6 - Works
IE7 - Works

FF2 - Nothing
FF3 - Nothing

FF don’t like to render things that are utterly invalid rendering markup. I’m sure if you wrap everything up in proper xhtml it will work fine in FF too.
