# Flash methods ongoing nightmare!

right, this has really \*\*\*\*\* me off!
i’ve been trying to get javascripts setVariable method to set a couple of variables in flash. i got this to work. just tested it in ns 4 and 6, and needless to say it doesnt work at all. i was warned that ns4 might not support it, but ns6!?😠
does anyone know a workaround for this?

Sorry man, I know Javascript, but I have absolutely 0 knowledge of how Javascript and Flash work together. So consider this reply a bump.

I personally avoid it because of such problems. I did a project with the need for this kind of communication and had lots of mixed results not only in browsers but platforms (OSes) as well. Needless to say, IE for Win worked the best/most reliably. Considering thats most of the surfers out there, that almost makes it ok to use, but I still just avoid it all together. I ended up reworking the project to be completely internal to Flash.

its the next morning, and i’m gonna have a strong cup of coffee before i attempt to deal with this. i’ll let you know how i fixed it (if i do!).

well that was fun. basically stripped out all the code i’d done and started again using the bog-standard loadVariablesNum in flash and feeding the variables in off the query string.
one to know for the future eh?
