# Flippy effect

I am _trying_ to recreate the effect on [http://www.struckdesign.com](http://www.struckdesign.com)
when the ‘news’ panel flipps around.
I can easily make it flip, but not a ‘straight’ flip. Any ideas on how to do this?

thats what i would of thought at first, but the rest of their site, and the other sites the’ve made dont do anything that is not possible with only flash and PS.

They could have used “mock 3d” using flash Actionscript tricks.

looks like an image sequence to me. I can’t see how flash could make the panel blurry when it is flipping. :S

They could have done that through multiple instances of the same thing going at slighty varying speeds.

I was just messing around and I made a pseudo effect, very similar to that.
Its simply distorting, with some simple, but neat AS.
You could use this as a mask for some cool effects. 🙂

Well, I checked that swf out in flash (they forgot to protect it) and it seems as if that effect you’ve done, disco-stu, is an image sequence on their site, so I bet that the panel spin is also an image sequence 🙂

you mean they did it with no AS!!! lol. I was trying to get that blur effect down a minute ago. Its tough trying to transparently blur a boxes edges…
I ALMOST got it though. Its basically going to come down to doing a perfect sized radial blur, and matching it up to two

Thanks, i think i have the idea now.
Just how would i go about making it do the panel spin?
I cant visualize what shape to make first frame and the ending frame.

Here’s that flip effect, done pretty sloppily, but it works. Basically, just have a constant “turning” animation (named flipper in the fla) and put that in a MC which tweens and eases to the movement, and then kill the MC (stick a blank MC in front of it) with the flipper in it when it gets to the point you want it, and put a replacement square there of the same size.
Spice this effect up a bit, but the FLA should help you figure out how to go about it.

btw if you want to change one of the speeds check the AS on the main mc

My guess is that they did lots of that in after effects. BUT another way it could be done is to put a flipper or two on delay and let it follow on a lower alpha setting.
