# Format for web?

There seems to be sort of rectangular format for almost all websites nowadays. Kirupa has it and many others. Is it because of different resolution settings? So it looks good on all of them? If so what are the specifications for such a design…because I am creating a website but I don’t want to get way down the line and discover it looks like crap on every other resolution.
