The problem is: I’m simply not making enough money to make ends meet, and if I had some kind of supplementary income to help pay the bills, that would rock. So, my plan is just this - set up a couple of crappy little .com sites that do nothing but pay me money for posting other people’s ads. Has anyone here set up a web page or two covered in ads solely for the sake of generating income? Any advice is welcome.

my source of online revenue is flashden…I get a couple hundred a month for doing nothing practically. I make the product and it sits there collecting money for me. I joined october 2007 and have sold 80 dollars shy of $5,000. Now authors start at 25% sales, but once you sell $500 worth you get bumped to 35%. I am 37% right now. So really I have made about $2,000. If I dedicated all my time to that I would be making so much more. I only have 12 products up right now and a few in the works, but it really is a nice little side deal…since the beginning of march til now I have made $980 bucks.

Now the cool thing about flashden is you get all kinds of freelance! People are constantly emailing me asking if I could customize one of the utilities I have made. I have made about $5000 in freelance so far and that has only been since maybe January. I didn’t freelance before that. Their is a link in my sig to the site if you wana check it out.

You mean like the million dollar homepage idea?

> **[The Million Dollar Homepage - Own a piece of internet history!](http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/)**
>
> The website of Alex Tew, a 21-year-old entrepreneur, who hopes to pay his way through university by selling 1 million pixels of internet ad space for $1 each.

> **[The Million Dollar Homepage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Million_Dollar_Homepage)**
>
> The Million Dollar Homepage is a website conceived in 2005 by Alex Tew, a student from Wiltshire, England, to raise money for his university education. The home page consists of a million pixels arranged in a 1000 × 1000 pixel grid; the image-based links on it were sold for $1 per pixel in 10 × 10 blocks. The purchasers of these pixel blocks provided tiny images to be displayed on them, a URL to which the images were linked, and a slogan to be displayed when hovering a cursor over the link. ...

> On January 1, 2006, the final 1,000 pixels left were put up for auction on eBay.[2] The auction closed on January 11 with a winning bid of $38,100.00

Is that the type of “supplementary income” your after 😉

Looks like these people gave up on gleaming money off the concept (now GPL License)

No serious DanontheMoon, can you express further your general idea?

Not very good percentages really. Seems more logical to start your own site to sell your stuff. Of course then you have to some how match FlashDen’s web exposure for advertising, which at this point probably cant be beat very easily 😉

I guess that makes up for a little regarding the crappy percentage for sales 😉

^Either one of these is a fine idea. The general idea was more along your lines, prg9, something like this:

1. buy domain
2. slather in advertisements
3. profit

I’m not opposed to selling something, but yeah, if I could do something like that that would simply make me money, even better. My skills with coding are about a D+ (I’m a designer, not a developer), so selling flash widgets is out.

Is freelancing out of the picture? I mean making money online is such an abstract process and there are so many potholes.

Not entirely, and believe me, I DO look for opportunities to do so. Again, mainly focusing on videography and print design, but there’s so little time in the day, and there are so many bull$#\*+ters here locally that want work but don’t want to pay. I’m a little squirrelly about doing it over the internet with clients I’ll never meet in real life and no safeguards that they’ll pay up front.

I don’t support Domain name squatting…but that’s what your thinking about. Meaning, you buy up a domain, and most hosting companies have some kinda program where they’ll put ads on it for you, and you’ll share profits from them.

Or you can be an \*\*\* (and this may or may not be illegal now), and register domains and hope to sell them to other people. There’s the story behind my [thinkpoint.org](http://thinkpoint.org) domain instead of [thinkpoint.com](http://thinkpoint.com).

I agree, also MrWicked I just looked closer at the terms and it seems like once you opt up to the higher % they lock you in to only being able to sell through them - double yikes!

Yeah I was thinking about joining FD until I saw that they started you at %25. What the \*\*\*\* is that? All they provide is a medium for selling your stuff which cost them only bandwidth. Absolute bull\*\*\*\*.

You _could_ sell your stuff on your own website and make 100%…but I supposed FlashDen is bringing you more traffic than you could get if you just started up. Plus with so many sellers, if they all had their own site to sell from, it wouldnt be fun for a buyer.

Is there an alternative to something like FD? I’ve been thinking of adding some files, but 25% is pretty abismal

I’d rather make no money then give those pricks at FD %75.

If someone made a site like FD that gave, say, %75 back to the seller I would sell stuff on there without a doubt. And so would anyone else from FD who wants to make 3 times as much money.

It’s actually a very good idea if you ask me. Unfortunately I don’t have the technical skills to do something like but anyone who did could make a killing (even after they give me %25 royalties ).

I think FD can alter your price also if they want to make more money or see something that will sell and they can make more money…

With the UltraShock relaunch they also have a asset section where various assets can be bought/sold. However their volume is not near that of FD, but then again I think they do a better job of not taking every joe smoe’s\* files knowing that most are stolen hacks to begin with like FD, atleast from alot of talk I have seen/read various places. I dont know what UltraShocks terms are but that is another one. Another is flashcomponents again I dont know what they offer regarding terms etc…

One thing about FD is they are on like 90% of all flash related forums/blogs/etc… so they have premo exposure, plus most the stuff is pretty dirt cheap. The main thing about FD is they make money on volume, tons of files, most cheap, tons of sales across thousands of items. But if you look at most files its like 6-20 sales, its not like most files are selling 10,000 copies.\*

\*(sorry to all the joe smoe’s out there watching in internet land)

@Dan: Look into proxy sites. They’re quick cash, and you can make a few hundred - a few thousand a month via advertising and turnovers with relatively little effort. Once you get through the initial marketing, which takes quite a bit of effort… it just flows, and people will start to know your network.
