Hey fella kirups, i just bought the Flash MX Designers Action Script Reference from Friends Of Ed and all i can say is wow. I was looking for a book that explains As code and gives you examples well this book just has all that and more, it even brings a cd that has tons of tuts,flas and even has a reference of the whole flash coding system. If you know the basics in flash and want to get into the world of true AS i recommend you to buy this book it’s worth every penny and you will learn alot in just the first few pages i cant wait till i finish this 1000+ page book:beam:

I was looking thru it the other day. It looked really good.
here is a link to a PHP book that I just got. If you are interested in learning the basics of PHP and database manipulation then get this book. Very easy to understand and use:

trust me if i wouldve been a employee of firneds of ed i wouldnt be on this forum asking for help lol, but i really recommend this book its great i’ve just read the first 2 chapters and ive learned in detail what the code actually does now i can look at the code and understand it this is what i really wanted to learn but be warned if you dont have any knowledge of AS it might be a little tough on the reader

Two Questions…
1. I am looking at buying the Flash MX action script bible tonight on my way home from work. I want to know if the Friends of Ed book is better. I mean - I know my around in flash and can create a lot of things, I just dont know much about actionscripting. I heard that the Bible takes you from knowing NOTHING about AS to explaining everything you need to know - which is what I need. Is the firends of Ed book that good for newbies to AS?
2. Lost - if I was to, say, no NOTHING about php - how usefull would that book be? I need to learn databasing and so forth to make my web design skills that much better. Would you reccomend it to a guy who knows a lot about html but nothing about php?

well if you know how to instances on your movie clips then you can use this book it doesnt explain the basics liek shape tweens or motion tweens nor any other effect it just takes you straight to doing AS animations, the first chapter explains the x and y coordinates and shows you how to make your movie clip move, rotate and applly alpha effects and some other cool stuff all by AS no motion or shape tweens required thus creating fast loading swf
I like it alot what you can do is when you go to the bookstore check out both boooks and choose wichever makes more sense to you

Hey SureShot! I missed your post. I knew hardly anything about PHP when I got the book. I think it is great. Very easy to understand and they show you step-by-step examples of everything. 🙂

Yeah I read that one too. However, the only problem with that one is that it concentrates on the Flash aspect. My intent was to learn PHP overall. Flash or not. 🙂
