before I pose this little problem, I am a complete flash beginner, and I’ve never really made a complete flash movie before,

anyway, I want to make an experimental game to show off what I do know, unfortunately, I’m missing some of the required knowledge.

ok, so the problem,

the main character will be movable, and he has a sword. The sword will have actionscript applied to it to give it a swooshy effect (I know my language is technical :p)

thing is, by the time I have the sword, and the action script, that is 3 movie-clips, not counting the ones used for the effect,

here’s the sword [rob.liquidelephant.co.uk/sword.html](http://rob.liquidelephant.co.uk/sword.html) (need the latest flash player)

now to make the effect I needed to make the blade and hilt as seperate movie-clips to direct the API to,

\*\* -is there a way to define specific points on a movie clip so that you can control them/direct things to it without having more than one movie clip, and also compensating for rotation etc?.
