you have to identify where the light source is to make accurate shadows, otherwise the whole 45 degrees from the top left deal just doesn’t look convincing. anywhere you have a seam as where the head and tentacles meet you will have a shadow, since it is a fairly round figure it may look good with a gradient rather than cell shading. ---

yea i was going to say gradients too… cell shading doesn’t make it look like it has depth ---
