# Help w/ error

can someone explain this error to me?

```auto

1061: Call to a possibly undefined method getRealNum through a reference with static type exam:XaMLDiplomat.

```

the code is here:

private function recordSelection(e:ResponseEvent):void {
            var qnum:Number = myDiplomat.getRealNum(currentQ);
            var resp:String = e.letter;
            var ans:String = myDiplomat.getAnswer(qnum);
            myRecords.newResponse(qnum, resp, ans);
            //trace("number:"+qnum+" response:"+resp+" ans:"+ans);
            mySkipper.setAnswered(currentQ);
            myTab.showProgress((mySkipper.answerCount())/(myDiplomat.getQCount()));
        }

```

and specifically this line seems to be the culprit.

```auto

var qnum:Number = myDiplomat.getRealNum(currentQ);

```
