# Help with loading external txt files

I have ben reading the Kirupa tutorials on loading external .txt files into Flash MX, but I am having some problems. I follow the instructions sooo carefully, I download the source files, but it still isn’t working.

Basically what I need to have is a text field in the Flash movie (it is for a websitelayout) that can call a txt file containing site updates and News. I do not want this text to be loaded from a link or button, just to automatically be there when the movie loads. This would be multiline text, and I do not want it to be selectable or able to be copied/pasted by visitors on the site.

Is there any way someone can help me out? One of the tutorials I followed automatically loaded text, but it was for single line text and when I tried to change the Dynamic text fields from ‘single line’ to ‘multiline’ it didn’t work. No text appeared when I made changes. The other tutorial I followed was loading text from buttons, and as soon as I edited my own text files (using the file names I was told to use in the tutorial) it won’t work either. No text shows up at all.

Please, someone - help me! It’s driving me crazy. All I need to know is how to load an external txt file to be imported into a text field that is NOT selectable, and is multilined.
