# Hopefully simple - Timeline Preference?

This has always bugged me about Flash… When you drag stuff over on the timeline, and say for example layers 1 - 6 for the first lot of frames have stuff on them, but layers 4 - 6 are empty after that. Then you find you need to put in a preloader (oops) so you select everything and move it all 1 frame over. Flash always extends the frames over and fills up layers 4 - 6 unless you put a blank keyframe stopper on all of them.  
Isn’t there some Timeline Preference I can use to do that automatically? I couldn’t find any and a search online just said about swicthing from Flash 5 Timeline setup to Flash 4 to auto put in the blank keyframes (which I don’t see in the Preferences window).
