nice one… simple yet very straight to the point. i like the idea of its simplicity. classic kind but its still the same. i wish i have that on my site too. i like it. so sophisticated. 🙂

I dont understand the grey horizontal line above the navigation. It’s just there bothering me 😛
Otherwise it’s a book example of minimalism. Nothing breathtaking - just information. Delivered.

Quackor, I see your point on the horizontal line, but after looking it over it kinda of fits the design grid, I guess I would expect it to be under the nav name, but above still serves the same purpose for an over-state, thus to me effective.

Thing is - it doesnt do anything (at least for me) it just sits there. Would make sense if it indicated the section you’re currently viewing - but no.

quackor, I stand corrected didn’t notice that!! Thought it was part of the navigation. It does disrupt some of the white space above the nav, kind of breaks it up, I guess I see it as a nice treatment instead of leaving blank white space. But I understand your point!!

No, I don’t like it at all. Huge fonts, “feels” like many elements have absolute position, and what’s with a bar on top of the “Archives” button that’s neither centered nor fully extended? More importantly, it needs colors. Right now it feels it’s dead or something with just light colors on white bg.

Heh, I suppose its all a matter of subjectivesness depending on the person. In my opinion, text along can do everything graphics can. It just has to be done very well.

i agree, and that’s called typography… however, this website isn’t “designed” graphically or typographically, it’s no different than a word press site. it doesn’t do anything clever with the text, just lays it there.
yes, opinions are subject to individual but to say this is a kool site is def. a stretch.

^^ I agree, to some extent. It’s nice to see modern sites that stand up on their own two feet, without a stack of imagery, but it’s not for every site. If you have the content then yeah, but some sites are there with nothing to prop them up except something to look at a lot of the time…
Just had this conversation with a friend/client of mine last night in the pub. He assured me he’d listened to everything I said, and he was gonna go back home, use the cms i built for him, and populate his site. 24 hours later and nada…
just as well I filled his pages full of imgs… 🙂

don’t get me wrong, i love minimalism. i love typography and i love it when text stands on it’s own AS design.
but this DOESN’T It’s a white background with grey text laid out in no special or stylized manner. most of the sections look like they could be comments on a blog.
it’s not a bad site, but to compare it along side of other “kool sites” just doesn’t work. something like this will never end up on thefwa and that’s what i strive for in my own design as well as design that i like to look at.

Then again, that might not be a bad thing…especially when the type work is done much better than your typical wordpress template. The archives are pretty cool though…
But your right, the +s are something like from years ago.
Er, isn’t the FWA only for flash sites anyway? While this is a flash forum and all, I still think normal sites should be on here as well.

ya, but i wasn’t saying that every site had to be flash. just that i prefer the direction, creativity, interactivity and general awesomeness of a website that is worthy of fwa appreciation.
sites like this one are just bland exercises in html coding. not design. not kool.
just my opinion. take it, leave it, suck it, whatever 😉
