# I want to make a thingie

anyone have any ideas as the best way to go about this?
i want to make a thingie that i can use as a work log to log my hours and such. it’s rather dumb, but i think it will help me get a better idea of what to charge per project once i figure out how much time i actually spend on making things. anywhoo… i just want some simple flash interface where i can enter in some info in a form and then have it logged into a nice orderly something. like, um. a little table. yeah, a table or spreadsheet like format. i just want a suggestion for easiest way to go about this. i have no probs finding a tut or something if it involves something i dunno, so i dont need a step by step. just a suggestion as to where to start.
also, has anyone ever heard of lightning corn? weird. they use it in rodeos.

This wa brought up not too terribly long ago at were-here I think. I used to have a simple flash-timer I made for that very purpose, but other people have gone in greater depth with the idea. Try searching online, you MIGHT find one pre-built and ready for download.
Otherwise, it wouldnt be too terribly difficult to make one up from scratch depending on what you need it to do.

hmm. i’ve been searchign around for awhile now to no avail. anyone have any keyword suggestions. or better yet. make the thing for me. i’ll give you money. heehee. jk. i just need a liftoff point. i’m quite unsuccesful this morning.

well, i would think that all the mathematics within flash would
suffice, but what else do you need it to do?

hmm… well. i just want to enter entries in a form that will then be posted in a table like format and basically calculate like, total hours or something. the calculations i know i can do within flash. i’m just not sure how to store the data entered. all my searches have brought up weird complex stuff that woudl be like killing a gnat with an uzi.

oh i see…you want to STORE the data :whistle:
i have no idea how you can do that locally, but with php/mysql
would be pretty easy. why do you want to store it? I would
think entering your appropriate figures as you want to calculate
would do…maybe not…

any reason for ignoring excel? it’s pretty darn powerful when
used correctly.

well, two reasons. #1 i don’t like it. yes, i’ve used it. but it gives me a ehadache. not cuz it’s hard. just cuz of all those little lines. makes me think of taxes.
#2 i am hoping to integrate this little tool into a dynamic desktop. which i certainly cant do with excel. :beam:

as long as you have flash MX you can use a shared object to store info locally.
