# Importing Illustrator?

So when I import Illustrator stuff, it just gives me flat images, not the layers. Also, if I try to bring in PSD or AI files that are shapes such as circles or people or whatever, i don’t get transparent backgrounds.

My designer boss said his other programmer can simply import the AI file and it keeps all the original layers and such. Why can’t I do this?
