He made his transition and preloading in the main movie. But could you also make the transition and preloading in the external swf file instead? Which way is better?

Yes you can, you have to change the path from \_root to the path to your movie.

There’s no better way but i think the easiest way to do it is like claudio did, easiest for the targeting
