# Java Applets

Why do people still use these things? I’m not trying to be sarcastic, I’m actually curious. I can maybe see how a compiling language such as Java is still being used and such, but putting an applet on a web page to do nothing more than move some text around is way more work than it’s worth, I think. Not to mention freezing your browser for an indeterminate amount of time.  
Is there something about Java programing such as that for the internet that I’m missing?
