# LCD vs CRT screens

Hello
I just bought myself a 17" LCD screen :D.
But I wonder if you guys now of any problems with lcd screens when you work with flash or any other kind of design? Is it any diffrent than working on a crt screen?

I use both actually but the LCD I have makes you use an un-Godly res. like 1280 (Ihave a 17in) If u dont use that res you will experience pixelation. But CRT’s are still by far better. I have a dual monitor set up with a 21in crt. Two 21 in crts on my desk is not possible. Matter of fact I dont think they make a desk strong enuff.
LCD’s are very vivid in their color and some colors view diff so mine is more for testing colors and stuff. But they are cool 2 have

I use my 17in’ LCD, but its easy to forget that your resolution is huge, so you have to keep that in mind when you are designing. I have a 19in CRT that I use for testing out colors and layouts and stuff. I’m about to buy another LCD when I get the money saved up…

LCD are really really sh\*t for playing games… especially high speed ones. so blurry, you can’t see a thing! 😛

i agree asphalt…they are just better for space…as a designer I eally could do without it but dual monitors is the best

LCD, CRT and TFT are different types… are you sure you guys don’t have TFT monitors? Seems a bit odd to have a 17" LCD screen.
CRT = color tubes from up to down
TFT = color tubes across
LCD = proton cannons shoot out pixels
and
Plasma (for the rich dude) = floating crystals.

i though lcds have a current going through them which bends a crystal hence liquid CRYSTAL display

Yup.
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display
(liquid crystals changes color according to the amount of electricity applied to every pixel)
CRT = Cathode Ray Tube
(CRT works by moving an electron beam back and forth across the back of the screen. Each time the beam makes a pass across the screen, it lights up phosphor dots on the inside of the glass tube, thereby illuminating the active portions of the screen. By drawing many such lines from the top to the bottom of the screen, it creates an entire screen of images.)
TFT = Thin Film Transistor (also called Active Matrix)
(About the same as LCD, but has a better luminosity and view angle)

Active Matrix is what is used on laptops.
I use CRT monitors, they have better color depth and contrast.

yesterday i bought my new pc (a vaio digital studio) and it comes with a tft screen, i’m still trying to adapt to the new colors, is there a way to adjust the screen so the colors look the same as the old pc i had??

i use a 19" CRT and love it, i heard that LCD’s werent that great so i stayed away.
@ Vote: is that why when i got to video tape my screen i see lines moving up and down?

dippy - that has to do with the difference in refresh rate of TV and refresh rate of Monitor.
