# Mac buyin' advice

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but I gotta ask somewhere. I’m about to buy a new Mac and it’s not an easy choice. My 12" 1.5GHz Powerbook does not like CS3 at all and I need a replacement. The big issue is running Flash and Photoshop CS3. So I’ve boiled it down to either the high-end 3Ghz iMac 24", the high end Macbook 2.4Ghz, or the entry model Macbook Pro. I live in Tokyo and one of the Apple stores told me Photoshop CS3 won’t even run on a Macbook, while a guy in another Apple store said it would run fine, but the display on the Macbook and the iMac are awful and prone to problems. Any advice would make my day. Cheers.

I don’t have any advice sadly, I would like to know if that PS CS3 rumor is true though. I have been toying with he idea of getting a MAC.

Photoshop CS3 definitely runs in the MacBook Pro, and I’m pretty ■■■■ certain it runs in the MacBook fine, too.

Photoshop CS3 runs fine on my wife’s Macbook. It’s the lowest end model, just the $1000 one.

It sounds like that first guy was more of a salesman :). MBP would be best if you need portable, if your at the same desk all the time then iMac.
[whisper]If your like me you will want to take your laptop to work and use it throughout the house. So MBP would be best… can’t use it on your lap though :([/whisper]

better to use portable CS3. coz it doesnt need a big space .

Seb does. And the problem was with 20" iMacs if i remember right not the 24".

Yeah, any of the new apple macbooks will run cs3 fine.
I own the 15’’ MBP, the lowest one, and I do everything with it: everything. CS3, Logic, watching movies… at the same time sometimes. It could be more powerful, as compared to a mac pro (desktop), but it’s more than enough for me.
If you don’t need mobility the imac will be just perfect too.

Get a MBP, I have one from '07 and it can run Photoshop and Flash CS3 simultaneously.

I wouldn’t say it sucks, I’ve put 2G of RAM in mine from '06 and it works just fine.

Ya, it looks like the specs of the Macbook Pro and the iMac are on par. Especially if I get the 3Ghz iMac. I’m only concerned about that screen and whether it’s going to be a problem later. It will be the 24" so it’s the high-end model, but still not sure.

Photoshop runs perfect on my MBP. As for the 24" iMac, I’ve had no screen problems, I use it to mainly watch TV every night.

I’m planning on going with a Mac Pro + 2 23" Cinema Displays at the end of the summer. If I end up wanting to save a little money, I’ll probably go with the 24" iMac…

Well, I’m buying a Mac Pro for my office, but this purchase is really just for my home use. So when I work from home, especially if/when I’m sick, I want a machine that can perform almost as well as my office machine. I’m leaning more towards that 24" iMac I guess. Anyone bothered by the glossy screen or is it not such a big deal when not near a window?

^Glossy screens are much better than matted especially if your never going to move your mac into the sun light.

How stupid would an iMac with a CD used as an extra monitor look? I’m half hoping Apple will update the monitors, they’re ancient as far as tech now and I want a new look.
