# Masking w/ soft fill edged shapes

When I use a shape with the edges softened the resulting mask isn’t softened. I create a shape then Modify-\>Soften Fill Edges-\>25px/18 steps then set the layer to ‘mask’.

I this just not possible or am I going about this in the wrong way?
