I’d like to make a MASK just like this:

[Check out Tutorial](http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash5/textmask.asp)

This is EXACTLY what I want to do… but I am not having much luck making my gradiant. I want to make the circle have a gradated fuzzy edge.

But when I make my circle with a Alpha edge (100% white to 0% white) and I make the mask over a large photo, the CIRCLE has a hard edge.

What is the trick to make the edge fuzzy on the mask???

Thanks!

try inversing the alpha effect the center should be 100% white and the outer edge should be 0% white

Yep!

That’s what I’m doing but it keeps having a HARD EDGE, I’ve downloaded the tutorial and am looking at the circle and I just can’t think of what I’m doing different!

Is it Monday?

What is ODD in the tutorial is the gradated circle is the color Light Blue to Black.

The background of the movie is Black and the object that get’s VIEW through the mask is Vector text.

But what I want to do is have the background be a photo bleeding on all 4 sides. The mask in this case seems to have a hard edge.

Thanks for your help… but I want the area viewed to be a photo and this is where the gradated ball is showing up with a hard edge.

Is it because my background image is a photo (PNG)???

the tutorial shows how a text is used as a mask. the circle is not the mask, it is the object being masked. what u’r doin is dat the circle is ur mask and the pic is the one being masked, that’s why u get the hard edged circle as mask. if u use the picture as a mask, the shape of the mask is the shape of the whole picture, not the shape of what’s on the picture.

ok this is a very cheap way to achieve the effect you want so you can use this while i get home and check out my masters of flash book where one of the writers made this effect check oout the fla just add the png to a layer beneath the movie clip thats in the fla and resize the movie clip if necessary

okay this is what you wanted check it out [http://www.expocaribbean.com/tut/flashlight\_tut.html](http://www.expocaribbean.com/tut/flashlight_tut.html) i had it right the second time but you just had to play with the alpha levels and make a real big square to create the masking effect, props go out to Ivo Van Grift teh creator of the tutorial and website check it out he has some cool tutorials [http://www.grootlicht.com](http://www.grootlicht.com)

you can download the fla here [http://www.expocaribbean.com/tut/flashlight\_tut.zip](http://www.expocaribbean.com/tut/flashlight_tut.zip)

P.S. Im only gonna leave the fla up for the weekend it will be offline by monday when i get time to make my own site ill upload some flas.
Hope you like it
