Any ideas why line three is undefined?

```auto
var t = this.createEmptyMovieClip("thumbnail",0);
t.picToLoad = "lowres/"+imageList*;
trace(t.picToLoad); // Returns undefined
trace("lowres/"+imageList*); // Returns expected
