Cool idea for a gift! Though this thread is a little bit old, I want to share my knowledge anyway.

For turning car photos into vector-style graphics, try [Vectorizer.ai](http://forum.kirupa.com/t/friendly-note-for-spammers-seo-seo-seo-seo/636786) or Adobe Illustrator’s Image Trace—both work well with non-portrait images.

If you ever need something for portraits (just in case), [GenYOU](http://forum.kirupa.com/t/friendly-note-for-spammers-seo-seo-seo-seo/636786) is great for creating realistic characters, even with your own face. Might be fun for future projects!
