Well Maya was used too, one of the head maya teachers over at gnomon was working on it, but I couldn’t find any proof in 30 seconds of looking online, so I can’t post that…

Aww man everyone has used ZBrush but me ☹

Lightwave \> Maya \> 3DSM

Maya is more hi-pol stuff, 3dsm is popular for lo-poly game models and whatnot. Lightwave can do both and comes with a kick arse renderer.

Yeah a ton of apps and a lot are low cost, look at C4d low cost (compared to the grand daddies) and amazing. Zbrush and Silo are other good examples.

Lightwave, 3ds, maya incorporated in film fx aren’t the commercial ones but pumped up company versions with proprietary plugs… I’d like to see a 3ds version used in movies - it must be crazy…

and as for a free excellent 3d app… USE BLENDER !!!

Lightwave was also used in League of extraordinary Gentlemen…Or something like that. And hellboy I believe. But each has its own glory. And in the hands of the right artist. Each can shine brighter than the other. So I would call it a four way tie between the big boys of the game.

Just curious what makes you think this? Alot of studios use them in conjunction as part of the pipeline. Pretty bold statement.

I have to admit,
3DSM is not better then Maya, nor is maya better then 3dsm. Usually people who can’t grasp the logic and expertese of Maya, go for the easier/cheaper 3dsm.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHahahahhAHHAHAH…they are not a 3d studio. And their word is piss when it comes to this. That is more of a preference.

Actually I said that because you told me that ever since I moved to 3DSM from maya on AIM. That the person who isn’t “good” at maya tends to switch to the “easier” and “cheaper” thing :).

I guess 3DSM is easy then.
