# New Design

Hey everyone,
Well, after working on adding and modifying sections for the site, I am wondering if it would be good to completely overhaul the design of the site and the forums. The current design has been similar to what you see now for more than a year, and don’t you all think something new would be in order?
I was taking a gander at the kirupaLab and the soon-to-be-live revised shopping section ([http://www.kirupa.com/shopping/index\_temp.htm](http://www.kirupa.com/shopping/index_temp.htm)) and I found the designs there to be more pleasant than the ones currently displayed on the home page. The design won’t change too much, but something slightly different than what is currently displayed. Maybe an option for customizing the colors on the site according to each user’s preference. I’ve seen it done on sites like neowin where I think they use custom CSS tags linked to a cookie. Just some random ideas I wanted to throw out here…
Of course, one would hope the colors on the new site will be more vivid and less emo like compared the kirupaLab and shopping lol

This is just the header animation: [http://www.kirupa.com/newdesign/index.htm](http://www.kirupa.com/newdesign/index.htm) The image to the left of the logo will eventually become dynamic and display something different each time the visitor views a different page containing the header.
The design will not be too radical - it will still retain many of the current characteristics. The home page will be the one that is going to more artsy with beveled edges. The rest of the site will simply display the new header with some slight color variations. I think the content is layed out well. Only a few nitpicky details - spring break starts in a few weeks for me, so that should keep me busy.
Just wanted to post this up for you all to see and provide me with any opinions on improving it.

Wow, that title bar is nice. Same basic design, just changed a tad with different colors.

I like it, but agree on the orange. Not that it looks bad, far from it, it just makes you wonder ‘why an orange?’. Could I petition or bananas, maybe? 🙂
I like it though. Slightly different from what we have now, but still keeping the basic feel of the site. Nice.

Hey guys,
The orange, for some sick reason, was the only icon in GIF format I had on my comp. I am going to make it so that a random icon (not an orange every time) is displayed. I just created a simple layout of what it might look like - the final will have random graphics that appear each time the visitor loads the animation.

Actually, just wondering, what are some things that you all feel should be on the home page?
Is there anything that should be removed - I basically copied and pasted the old contents into the new design, but it simply looks bad. I am quite satisfied with the header and the animation below it, but the rest of the stuff just looks odd.

I don’t think you need that list of links to each section on the forum. They can be useful, but they can also be confusing as well. People might think they are to sections on the site if they don’t look carefully.
You could probably also lose the Full Tutorial list. I mean, you have a whole nother page for that. You could probably just put a link to it at the bottom of the “New Tutorials List” or something like that.
Not that I think any of these have to be removed, but if you had to remove something then my best guess would be either of these.

Well, personally I don’t think the bevelled feel goes well, because the angles are different on the header and then the large animation at the top, and then there is no effect on the footer. I agree that the light blue needs some sort of frame, so maybe the bevel is a good idea, but I think the angles have to match because to me it doesn’t seem like they do and it makes my eyes cross… The colors are awesome tho.

Also, is this thread freezing up for any of you? For some strange reason, this thread locks up my comp for about 15-20 seconds before displaying all the stuff.

not for me, but I have footers turned off… maybe a footer is doing it…
K-man: That was just my personal opinion. I’m not sure what it was but something felt **off** to me… Do not take my advice as if it were good advice… 🙂 It was just something that I thought looked off. it may look fine to other people…
