# Open Source Flash IDE

Hi there,

I was not sure where to post this…

I have been thinking about going open source with flash as it is incredibly expensive and I don’t like being tied down to a corporation and having to pay for updates every couple of years. Also CS3 does not work on a Linux system.

I was wondering if any of you guys had tried any Open source flash IDE’s and what you thought of them, how do they compare to cs3? Do they work with Linux etc.

Would be really interested in your thoughts.

I think your main option is the Flex SDK with FlashDevelop IDE.

I haven’t tried it as of yet, so don’t know about Linux, but go to the FlashDevelop site and know you shall.

It seems to be a pretty popular alternative to CS3.

FlashDevelop is better than Flash.

Never used it but I know that the creator of Papervision3D (the spaniard Carlos Ulloa) works with FlashDevelop… So it’s surely a powerful ide (better than the crappy flash actionscript panel)
