I’m trying to gather up some information regarding multi-user flash applications that maintain a persistent connection with the users. From what I’ve read, all I can use here are socket-servers such as SmartFox?

Is there any way to maintain a persistent connection using the basic stuff that a webhost offers (PHP, MySQL, XML, etc…) and not having to install servers like SmartFox?

Thanks!!
