# Photoshop CS4 layers question

I was in Photoshop CS4 last night and I noticed that the layers weren’t highlighting when I clicked them to work on them. Instead of the blue that indicates the layer is selected it remained gray even though I had selected the layer. Is this new to CS4? How do I turn it off?
