# Photoshop to illustrator, puzzled

I have a photograph in photoshop that is:  
2000px x 3008px  
6.667" x 10.027  
300 DPI

I create a document in Illustrator at 24" x 32" and I go to file - place and I import the photograph and it comes in larger than the 24" x 32" ?? how is that ? when the photo is 6.6" x 10.027" ??
