Books are a great start, but becoming an expert in ActionScript is by no means something you can get _just_ from books. You need to write lots of code, practise and develop your understanding. It will take time - in my case, it took me about six months to really start to understand the original ActionScript, and AS3 has so far taken me about the same to get an “okay” level of understanding - though of course, your mileage may vary 🙂
