I am now trying to create an cartoon animation.When I import a gif file into the workarea, I cannot select the individual parts of the pic (like suggested in this tutorial : [http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/cartoon.htm).](http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/cartoon.htm).)
How do I do that? Please help.I know, I must sound really dumb, but I am really new to all this.Your help will be appreciated.

Either you need to draw (trace okay) the parts in Flash or you need to seperate them outside of flash and import them seperately. Or you can import the whole thing and find the “trace bitmap” option (I forget which menu it’s under). But I think trace bitmap makes the shape large in KB size - you’ll have to check. Anyway, once you do the trace bitmap I think you can select the parts you want to make into a movie clip.

I could not locate the trace bitmap option.I will try to separate them in photoshop and proceed from there.
