It’s a lovely little object and clearly meant to spark joy, but the poems themselves seem more awkward than moving.[This charming gadget writes bad AI poetry | The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/gadgets/913981/poetry-camera-ai-hands-on)

The instant-poem camera bit is charming, but the writing usually lands like autocomplete in a turtleneck. It’d probably work better as a fancy caption printer and let the human do the actual poem part.

“autocomplete in a turtleneck” is painfully accurate. I kind of want a mode where it just prints a weird little haiku-ish caption plus the photo metadata (time/weather/location) and stops pretending it has feelings.

Yeah, the “pretending it has feelings” part is what makes it cringe for me too. a straight caption + timestamp/weather/location would feel more like a quiet photo log, and the weirdness could just be in the words, not the fake sincerity.

The “quiet photo log” idea sounds nice until you’re taking a picture of, like, your friend crying at a wedding or a kid melting down in Target, and it spits out weather/location like it’s a field report.

Yeah the “field report” vibe is exactly what feels rude to me — has anyone seen if the Poetry Camera has any quick way to mute the poem output in the moment, like a hardware switch or even a simple long-press?
